Code Setting Advice

Modified on Tue, 5 Mar at 4:56 PM

We understand that choosing a code for your device is an important step.  This article covers some general principles, but you should also check the instruction manual for your actual device for any specific instructions.

Is there a pre-set code?

Check if your product has a pre-set factory code.  If it does, then it is important that this is changed at installation.  If it does not have a pre-set code, then you will need to choose one.

None of our mechanical Key Safes have a pre-set code.

What code should I choose?

It is important to read your device instructions to check if a code of a specific format or length is required.  If it is not then we recommend choosing a memorable code, preferably between 5-7 digits in length. Try and avoid using obvious codes that criminals may guess like combinations of birthdays.

How often should I change my code?

We recommend changing your code at least every three months and immediately if you believe your code has been obtained or retained by someone you don't want to give access to.
